So Jessica, can you give us a quick introduction about yourself?
My name is Jessica. My favorite thing to do in life is travel. I have traveled to 38 countries, all over Europe, the Caribbean, Central America, North America, and I have traveled to many states within America as well.
I started traveling at a young age, and usually travel with my mom, who is my best friend. Being an only child, it was usually just my mom and I, occasionally my dad will join us. I started on Instagram with posting my travel photos, and now I am launching my website with a travel blog currently!
Where are you in the world currently?
I am currently living in my home town of Oceanside, Ca, in San Diego. I was born and raised here, and this still remains one of the only places I would want to live in the world.
Where do you plan to get to this year?
This is a tough question for me because I am really horrible at planning things out. Almost all of the trips I have been on have only been planned at most one month in advance. I have goals to make it to Fiji, Cancun, Mexico, possibly return to Bora Bora, French Polynesian, and possibly make it down to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic depending on the Zika Virus that is currently going on.
Some domestic trips I would like to go on this year include Nashville, TN, since I am a huge country music fan, Las Vegas, NV, since I have turned 21 this year, and San Francisco, Ca.
At the end of the day, I will see what adventures come my way, pack my bags, and go!
What has been your all time favorite place?
Florence or Firenze, Italy remains my favorite place I have been. I might be a little biased because during my freshman year of college I studied abroad and lived here. I am also Italian, and love embracing my heritage. I have traveled to Florence three times, and I would go back tomorrow if I could!
Travel tip: While in Florence, climb to the top of the Bell Tower and Duomo for the best views of Florence!
What is your top backpacking tip?
My best tip for when backpacking or traveling to multiple places in a short time is to allow yourself time to pack everything up. I know this sounds silly, but when you are rushed trying to pack, you will forget things. For example, when I was in Krakow, Poland, traveling to Budapest, Hungary, I was so rushed trying to squeeze everything in, I did not allow enough time to pack everything up, and I left my jacket where I was staying in Poland, and I really needed that jacket throughout the trip.
Could you share with us your all time favorite photo you have taken travelling?
This photo was taken in Belize, at Ambergris Caye, which is a small island or ‘Caye’ in Belize, accessible by a small plane, roughly about 15 people.
I really like this photo because turtles are my favorite animal ever, and I was beyond stoked to find one while snorkeling.
Traveler tip: ask to co-pilot the plane ride over, and you will get to sit in the front of the plane and have the best view ever!
Which thing should every backpacker carry with them? – Saying mobile phones isn’t allowed, be creative 😉
I think the best investment in monetary value and space (space is so precious) is to have a professional camera that takes high res photographs when traveling. Throughout all my travels, I have always taken lots of photos of all of the places I have been. I have noticed that the quality of the photos is so much greater when taken on my camera rather than my iPhone. Looking back, I would have rather carried my camera along with me, and had great photos to look back on.
Traveler tip: Take photos of everything, and I mean everything. You will want them later, and it is better to have too many photos than not enough!
Do you have any words of advice or inspiration for anyone undecided about travelling?
Some words of advice for people who are contemplating traveling would be to start small. Go on a road trip by yourself, or with your friends to a nearby town, and see how you like it. Start small, and then work your way up to a large trip. Some advice is to also use a tour group if you are worried about planning your trip.
Thank you for your time Jessica, a real great insight into what you love about travel, loving the travel tips too 🙂
