Thank you for giving us your time today Alizah!

Could you get us started with an introduction for our readers please?

Only a few years ago I was living a life that wasn’t my own. I thought my path was to take a corporate job at some company where I would really be no one, just a faceless number with my nose to the grindstone. Making money for money’s sake.

It was only recently that I came to the conclusion that I can’t live my life for others. I can’t be scared of what they think, especially my parents. Instead, I have my eyes set on traveling. I want to see the intricacies of the world. I want to wake up and know that I am truly living. That I am utilizing the breadth of my body and mind to its full potential. That’s why I’m taking a leap of faith and not doing what’s expected of me by taking a job in the corporate world.

Instead I’m going to make my life an adventure.

Where are you in the world currently?

and where do you plan to get to this year?

I am heading to SE Asia this April where I will be backpacking through Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

Sounds amazing!

What has been your all time favorite place so far?

So far it has to be Kyoto, Japan.

I fell in love with the Japanese culture and lifestyle. Kyoto is a much more traditional city than Tokyo, people live at a slower more intentional pace and the cherry blossoms in spring have to be one of the prettiest sights I’ve ever seen.

Could you share us your all time favorite photo you have taken travelling?

I took this picture in Carqueiranne, France while sitting at a little café and watching the sunset on the docks.

It was such a magical moment that I’ll never forget.

Stunning photo!

Do you have any tips to give our backpackers reading?

Be safe and aware of your surroundings, but also be open to new experiences and new people.

Don’t be afraid to fully immerse yourself in the culture that you’re exploring.

Backpacking isn’t about being a tourist, its about experiencing a new place through the eyes of a local.

Which thing should every backpacker carry with them?

Saying mobile phones isn’t allowed, be creative 😉

Definitely a journal.

Backpacking will be one of the most exciting times in your life, but it is also a time of reflection and introspection. Carrying and writing in a journal as much as you can allows you to sort through your adventures and remember them, but also to reflect about the changes you see in yourself and your perspective.

Do you have any words of advice or inspiration for anyone undecided about travelling?

You’ll never look back on your life and think “I wish I hadn’t gone exploring and traveling to a new place and just had stayed back” you’ll never regret the adventures you go on, but you sure will regret not going on them when your too old to do so.

There will always be time to make money and be successful, and money will fill your pockets, but adventures will fill your soul.

Great advice!

What has been your favorite food whilst away?

When I was traveling through France I could not get enough crepes. I had to have them wherever we went. My favorite was the savory ones with cheese and ham. So good!

What has been your favorite activity whilst away?

I love to run anyway, but running on new paths, beaches, and trails is one of my favorite things to do while traveling. Its something that clears my thoughts and grounds me.

Also I find the idea of doing something so regular in my normal routine like running, but in a foreign place so surreal.

What quote do you try to live by?

“By replacing fear of the unknown with curiosity we open ourselves up to an infinite stream of possibility. We can let fear rule our lives or we can become childlike with curiosity, pushing our boundaries, leaping out of our comfort zones, and accepting what life puts before us.”

-Alan Watts

Where would you still like to visit?

I really want to see Australia and New Zealand.

I’m planning on making it there sometime next year!
